This section can be used to split your store into different departments by class (brand, type, etc). Each category may be split into smaller subcategories. Also for each category you can manage featured and bestsellers products.

On this page following dialog boxes exist:

A. Quick Links

This dialog box, for better navigation, contains links to dialog boxes/sections on the screen.

B. Main Categories
The list of existing main categories. An example of main category records are presented below:
 



Pos.: In this column you can view/set order (position) of a category in the "Shop By Category" sidebar navigation section for your storefront. Categories with lowest Pos. value are placed first followed by the categorys with higher values.  
Category Name: Names of existing  categories along with radio buttons are presented in this column. Click on a category name below to get a list of subcategories for that category (see section 1.1.1).
Active: When this checkbox is checked, the category is displayed in the "Shop By Category" sidebar navigation section of your storefront.
Products: The values displayed in this column are represented in the following example: 34(105) here 34 is amount of products were added to Main category and 105 is amount of products were added to Main category + all subcategories of that main category.
Subcategories: Contains amount of subcategories assigned to a main category.

You can save changes to categories position and active status by clicking the [ Update ] button below the main categories list. If no problems occur during this operation you will see the "Categories have been successfully updated." information message at the top of the dialog box.

You can View/Edit a category by selecting the radio button for that category and clicking the [ Modify... ]  button (next step see in section 3).

To add a new category please click the [ Add New ] button (next step see in section 2).

To delete a category, you can select the corresponding radio button and click the [ Delete ] button.
Note: Deletion of a category with product(s) assigned will also delete assigned product(s) if the "Allow deletion of categories that have products assigned" setting is not checked in the "Administration > General Settings > Admin" section. Please delete or reassign products to another category before deletion of a category or change this setting (how work with General Settings you can see here). In this case if you trying to delete a category with assigned products you will see the "You're attempting to delete a category with products assigned." information message with help description at the top of the dialog box.

C. Featured Products for: Homepage 
This dialog box allows to you manage featured products on you storefront homepage (the "Feature Product" section). An example of featured products list is shown below:



Pos.: In this column you can view/set the order (position) of a products in the "Feature Products" section of your storefront homepage. Products with lowest Pos. value are placed first followed by products with higher values.
SKU and Manuf ID: are linked and clickable, clicking these links opens the "Product Details" popup window for that product.
Product Name: contains linked and clickable full products name. Clicking this link opens the "Modify Product" for that product.
Active: When this checkbox is checked, the category is displayed in the "Feature Product" section for your storefront homepage.
Action: Contains buttons for removing products from this featured products list.

For saving changes to positions and active status please click the [ Apply ] button.

For adding new product(s) use the "Add Product(s)" field (see appendix).

After clicking the [ Apply ] or  [ Remove ] button or adding new product(s) to the featured products list, if no problems occured during these operations, you will see the "Featured Products have been successfully updated." information message at the top of the dialog box.

You can configure the Featured Products display options in the "General Settings > Customer" section.

D. Bestsellers for: Homepage
This dialog box will only be presented only if the "Bestsellers" module is enabled.
Here you'll see the bestselling products listed which are also displayed in the "Bestsellers" section for your storefront homepage.
In this dialog box you can review the bestselling products list that was auto-assigned based upon your bestseller settings. See General Settings > Modules section and search keyword "Bestseller" for related settings.

  

You can also manually add/remove product(s) from the bestsellers list:



The workflow for working with manually assigned bestsellers is the same as working with featured products. See featured products section for details.

This screen allows to add a new Category/Subcategory and specify the following parameters for that category/subcategory:

Category separator: In this text area you can input the separator (HTML or Text) which will be displayed below that category in sidebar navigation section for your storefront. Example: if for the category with name "Test" you inputed "*************" separator in your storefront sidebar navigation this category will be displayed as it is shown below:


To show the separator, simply check the check box in this field and enter your separator text.

Category Name: text field for entering a name of a new category/subcategory. This field is required, if you do not  specify a category name you will see  the "Please provide valid entries for the fields indicated below." information message at the top of this dialog box, after clicking the [ Apply ] button.

Subcategory Description: text area for entering the text which will be displayed when listing this category as a subcategory assigned to a main category.



At the right top of the text area you can see [ ABC ] button. Click this button to open the "SpellChecker" popup window. (For info on how work with the SpellChecker please see here http://www.spellchecker.net/ ). Also in  the bottom right, you can see text field with # of allowed chars. remaining.

META Tags Entry Type: contains two "Basic" and "Advanced" radio buttons. By selecting one of them you can provide corresponding META Tags entry. 

If  the "Advanced" is selected below you will see the Meta Tags text area for entering advanced META tags, please provide correct HTML code for needed META Tags (Description of  how to use HTML Meta tags for example you can see here).
If the "Basic" is selected below you will see text areas for entering the text to display in the META Keywords tag and the META Description tag on the category page for this category.

Category HTML (First Results Page): text area allows you to add HTML code which will be displayed above the "subcategories list" or the "products list" dialog box in the first result page for that category in your storefront. Example: If you add...

Category HTML (All other Results Pages): Also you can add new HTML code for displaying in other related pages (subcategories pages and so on) or use the code which was entered into previous field by checking the "use Category HTML from First Results Page" checkbox below this text area. 

Category Sidebar Link Display Options: Here you can set preferred options of link displaying for that category in your storefront category sidebar.



Membership: In the select menu located on this field you can set access of memberships (how add/edit/delete membership levels please see here) to that category (user Ctr+Click to select multiple).

Active: When this checkbox is checked, the category is displayed in the "Shop By Category" sidebar navigation section of your storefront.

Pos.: In this column you can view/set order (position) of a category in the "Shop By Category" sidebar navigation section for your storefront. Categories with lowest Pos. value are placed first followed by the categories with higher values.  

After clicking the [ Apply ] button, you will be redirected to the "Modify Category" (see section 3) page with a currently added category, if no problems occur during performing this operation you will see the "Category Info has been successfully updated." information message at the top of the dialog box.
  
 
In this screen you can view/edit a category/subcategory. For more details, see the "Add Category" screen details above (see section 2). This section presents:

a. the Modification History (at the top of all settings):


b. the category image settings such as Category Image, Category Background Image and Category Icon.



In the "Assigned Images" section you can see the name of assigned images, their sizes and [ Delete ]  buttons to delete an image. If category does not have an image assigned for any of the image types, you will see the "No image assigned" text. You can add a new image by using the "Add New Image" section:



In the "Image Type" select menu you can choose the type of image which you would like to add (Category Image, Category Background Image or Category Icon). Below, is a radio button for selecting the source of the image: If the image located on this server, click [ Browse ]  button and you will see the "Select Image" popup window (see appendix) for selecting an image.
If the image located on your local computer ...

   

... select the desired directory in the "Upload Directory" select menu and click [ Browse ]  button to browse for the file on your local computer or type the local file path.
If the image located on the internet, input the image URL in the text field.
Finally, click [ Apply ] button for assigning the image and if no problems occur during performing this operation you will see the "Category Images have been successfully updated." information message above the "Assigned image" section.

Note: If the image already assigned and you apply a new one, the old one will be replaced with the new one.


This screen will be opened when you click on a category name ($Category_Name)  in the main categories list (see section 1). Here you can see following dialog boxes:
A. Quick Links for: $Category_Name 
This dialog box, for better navigation, contains links to dialog boxes/sections on the screen.

B. Category Info for: $Category_Name 
In this dialog box you can see a category information such as a category name, subcategory description and modification history. Click [ Modify ] button (will open the "Modify Category" screen with that category, see section 3) to make changes to this category.

C. Subcategories for: $Category_Name 
Here the subcategories list assigned to the $Category_Name is located. Formatting is the same as for main categories list (see section 1).

Save changes to subcategories position and active status by clicking [ Update ] button below the main categories list and if no problems occur during performing this operation you will see the "Categories have been successfully updated." information message at the top of the dialog box.

You can Review/Edit  a subcategory by select the radio button for that category and clicking the [ Modify... ] button (next step see in section 3).

To add a new subcategory, please click [ Add New ...] button (next step see in section 2).

Click on a subcategory name below to get a list of subcategories for that subcategory (see section 1.1.1).

D. $Category_Name: Main Category for Products  
Here you can view and manage products which have been assigned "$Category_Name" as their main category. An example of category products list contained in this dialog box you can see below:


Pos.: In this column you can view/set order (position) of a products in the "$Category_Name - Product List" section for that category in your storefront. Products with lowest Pos. value are placed first followed by the products with higher values.
SKU and Manuf ID: are clickable and open the "Product Details" popup windows for that product.
Product Name: contains linked and clickable full products name.   Clicking this link opens the "Modify Product" for that product.
Active: When this checkbox is checked, the product is displayed in the "$Category_Name - Product List" section for that category in your storefront.
Action: Contains buttons for removing products from this categorys products list.

For saving changes to positions and activities please click [ Apply ]  button.

For adding new product(s) use the "Add Product(s)" field (see appendix).

After click  [ Apply ]  or  [ Remove ]  button or adding new product(s) to the category products list, if no problems occur during performing these operations, you will see the "Assigned Products list has been successfully updated." information message at the top of the dialog box.

E. $Category_Name: Additional Category for Products
In this dialog box you can view and manage products which have been assigned to "$Category_Name" as an additional category. This 

F. Featured Products for: $Category_Name
This dialog box allows you to manage featured products which will be shown under this category. Logic of working with featured products list and formating is the same workflow as with the "Featured Products for: Homepage" dialog box described in section 1.

G. Bestsellers for: $Category_Name
This dialog box allows you to manage bestselling products which will be shown along with this category. Logic of working with bestsellers products list and formating is the same as for the "Bestsellers for: Homepage" dialog box described in section 1.

 
This screen will be opened when you click on a subcategory name ($Subcategory_Name) in the subcategories list in the "Categories > $Category_Name" page with the same content as for section 1.1 but for that subcategory.

Helpful Hint: With the presented logic in the "Category" section you can create categories for your products, split each category into smaller subcategories as well each subcategories may be split into other subcategories. So you can create a category tree for your products as it is shown on an example below:
    Category 1
        Subcategory 1 for Category 1
             Subcategory 1 for Subcategory 1 of Category 1
        Subcategory 2 for Category 1
    Category 2
         Subcategory 1 for Category 2
              Subcategory 1 for Subcategory 1 of Category 2
              Subcategory 2 for Subcategory 1 of Category 2
    Category 3

Links on you categories are displayed in the "Shop By Category" sidebar navigation section for your storefront. When a customers follow one of these category links, links for subcategory assigned to that category will be shown as a tree under the link for that category (is subcategories have been assigned for the clicked category).
 


  An example content of the "Select Image" popup window is shown below: 



In the "Directories" window you can see the list of existing directories/folders on your server. Double-click a directory to view its contents in the "Files" window. Below these 2 fields, you can review the currently selected image. For adding a selected image, click the [ Select ] button. Also you can bookmark a selected image for future quick adding by clicking the [ Bookmark ] button. Bookmarked images along with link for deletion are placed in the "Bookmarks:" section of this popup. Click a bookmarked image name above for quick adding of that image.   
Please note, larger image libraries of your web server can increase the load time of this page. If this becomes an issue, we recommend that you uncheck the 'Active' button above, which disables the option to preview an image from your web server.



Click the [ Browse ] button to search for products or to view your product bookmarks. When clicked the "Advanced Search" popup window will be opened. In the "Search Results" you can select product(s) which you would like to add. To add them, just click the [ Select ] button. Also here you can add products to Bookmarks by clicking the [ Bookmark ] button for future quick adding. Bookmarked products along with link for deletion will appear at the top of the popup.



Click a bookmarked product name above to quick add the product.   
This popup also contains the [ Quick-Add New Product ] button for adding a new product. when clicked will be opened the "Quick-Add New Product" popup window.  

If the "active" check box was checked when you added new product(s), will be added to the products list as "active" status.
